As I am looking at your pictures, I have to say (and don't take this in a negative way because its the point of taking a class) you have really improved. This batch of photos in my opinion have been you best and I think its is awesome that you have revisited each topic.
For the construction of your photographs, I felt like I was walking with you on a trip. Your organization of inside to outside images really made it a smooth transition. I like how you utilized focus in 10,13,16 and 17. I also like how used various depths, angles, proximity and panorama to lead the view into your photos.
For the communication of your photos, I think they can all be read well and there are a few photos that resonate with me. I like both the pictures of the basketball hoop, although the fourth one is my favorite. I use to play basketball and rims with no nets are notorious for taking over my neighborhood. It brought back a lot of memories and successfully filled an element of this assignment. I also really like 14 and 21. they both deal with nature but capture two completely different elements life and death. I like the focus and proximity in 14 and I like how you captures the textures in 21and then gave it a filter that would not make them overbearing. Finally, I think you got a awesome panorama on #22. You created a space to dwell in and gave me two streets to go down.
For the conception of your photos, I believe your intention was to make a trip for the viewer. My favorite image is #13. I know how difficult it can be to get that kind of focus and I think you captured a cool space.
I enjoy that you used those extended sight panoramas in your vintage crit. It adds another level of depth to them, I believe. You have a lot of images here, and there are a lot of good ones, but there are a few that don't communicate much to me (and that is just me, so maybe I'm alone in this). However, I think you could definitely do a bit more of a "close shaving" of your work to lower it to the right number of images for the crit and still have a very strong, if not stronger, body of work. Photo 20 is definitely my favorite. Something about a shattered old school TV really helps bring out that "broken memory" kind of feel.
Hi Mike. I really enjoyed your use of "Extended Seeing" themes to further accentuate this topic. My favorite photo is 14. I think it really captures the whole topic of memory and to me it had great emotional appeal.
Hi Michael, I really like the vibe your pictures give off. When I look at the set it reminds me of the city which is really cool. My favorite picture is number 14 because I love how the grass is in focus and the background fades away nicely. Very cool!
I like shot 20 out of your photoset- the reflection in the TV got flipped and I immediately thought of how images get flipped in a camera lens. The depth of field in this shot creates an intriguing story for the viewer and makes me want to figure out what happened before the shot was taken. I also think you did a nice job highlighting the subtle fraying and cracking of all the objects and how you didn't use it as the focus of your shot, but rather to enhance the shot overall. Nice!
I think image 16 is a perfect example of vintage/memory. Even though I know this image was taken recently, it still looks very old timey. The filter you used is great for the subject. Your other images are really good too! This one was just my favorite :)
Hi Mike! I really enjoy photo 20, of the broken television set. The wash on this gives a nice vintage feel, and I think the cracked screen speaks volumes about technology in our world today. Not only is the TV broken, but all sets like that are obsolete.
