Hey Natalie, my favorite photo is your last photo of the horse in ch3. The black and white makes the photo so dramatic. It shows so much detail in the horses face it is breath taking. Also the dark in the plants help to balance the photo and make the eye move all around the photo. You did a great job on your final portfolio and I like your chapter titles.
Hey Natalie, I'm actually a little bummed out you haven't gotten more comments yet, especially since you were the first to post. :/ I accidentally backed out of writing this post earlier and am starting over, but I'll try to be kind of in depth to make up for it.
Overall, you produced a pretty nice final portfolio. You obviously have an eye for detail and actions, as evident by your work, but I think your framing and timing could use some work. For example, in the second image, the position of the streetlamp would be a lot more successful if it was moved over a bit to the left. Also, in the image of the fence near the train yard, I feel like the way the gate is sort of half out of the frame makes it seem odd and offbalance. There's an element in photography that deals with this called "closure," but I'm not really sold on this image falling into that element. As for timing, some of the images seemed a bit shakey and rushed: like the one of the safety fence over the overpass and the dude and the birds. This effect works really well, though, in the image of the guy running, as I get a general sense of energy all over it.
My favorite image would have to be the fifth one, with the guy getting in the car. Something about how the image is composed, the balance within the frame, the toning, and the general subject matter just strikes a chord with me.
Overall you did a real nice job this semester. Keep on working on photography! You have a keen eye, and you'll only keep getting better.

ReplyDeleteHi Natalie, I love the fifth photo from your Solitude chapter. The garden looks super beautiful and I can tell it was a very well thought out shot.
