  1. Wow! you're pictures are great. I can't even believe that you took these with a smartphone! I love how you have some photos that are really close and detailed and then I like what you did with the pictures that are far away and have more in the picture.
Because this whole assignment was black and white, it gives me this sort of like aged/vintage-y feel for everyones pictures.
My favorite photo has to be #6. I have no idea which bridge this is but this quality is so great that I would hang it up in my room as a poster. I have a lot of posters that have buildings and bridges from New York, Paris, and London and your photo definitely meets with these expectations.
    Great job!!!!

  2. Hi Kristen, for the construction of your photos, your pictures are very organized and are angled in a way to make the shots interesting. As for the communication of your pictures, for the most part I feel a sense of busyness with all the movement and the pictures that are full of subjects. And for conception, about half are about being outside and the other half are a little random, but the topic was on mystery and I feel you captured that in most of your pictures. All in all great job and my favorite picture is #9 because although it is a picture of flowers with it being black and white that changes the picture completely!

  3. Your photos have a very nice technical construction. I have been following how they've been all week, and I'm honestly blown away by how much better your crit photos were than the rest of the images you were posting. This is only the second one I'm looking at currently, but I'm going to just put down a wager and give you the title of most improved body of work for this week, because these look very great!

Now for the bad news: I don't really feel much mystery from these. Sure, some of the pictures have a sort of mystery feel to them, but it's more of a noir/thriller/horror kind of feel than a "what the heck am I looking at" kind of feel, when the latter was what we were supposed to do. I feel like I too sort of didn't meet that part of the challenge, but hey, whatever, mystery is hard, man.

I think image 1 is my favorite. The contrast between your whites and blacks make for a great range of greys, the exposure is spot on, the informal balance of it, and the freezing of the water movement is just tops. Great job.

  4. My favorite photo is number 3. Most of your photos were familiar, but this one was something I could easily recognize. It was the only photo that made me feel calm and the others made by feel rushed or busy with all the movement in the photos. Your shots were clear and of specific objects. You captured them well.

  5. My favorite picture of yours is #10- I liked how you framed the texture of the surface rather than the object itself. It definitely added a mysterious element to the shot. I also liked the angle of the shot- approaching it from an angle allowed the viewer to see this object from an unusual way and really analyze it. Overall, I liked the flow of your photoset and how you created a mysterious vibe out of the specific objects you shot.

  6. I actually enjoyed your self portraits the most, honest and lovely! However, from your set, I really like number 10. I like the contrast and the depth developed from the textured surface. You use good framing techniques and have a smart eye for seeing when centering and symmetry actually add the the composition. Beautiful!

  7. I love the use of symmetry and how all of the photos are very crisp. One thing I would say is that when I shoot black and white I try to have a pure dark and a pure white in the photo and have the midtones blended throughout, but that's just me not necessarily what you might do. A lot of these are very strong, but I think my favorite is the bridge. Looks perfect.

  8. I really like #5 its a great shot very artful but yet mysterious because you know that it is a building but you dont know what the building "is" is it a house, a shack? a business? and why was it abandoned? even though it is in the direct middle of the frame i think it still speaks for itself

  9. My favorite photo is number 5. It's well framed and the decaying building is intriguing. All of your photos are very crisp and contrast/brightness is pretty much perfect in all of them. They are also really well lit. Your photos start out indoors and transition to outdoors in the city then transition to nature.

  10. I enjoyed these images especially 1 & 2. I think you did a really good job utilizing colors to give your images depth. I think your angles are on point, even those that are centered like the building. I am not sure if there is an overall theme but more micro themes such as nature and driving. I really enjoyed your photos but my favorite is #1. Having the water on was a great idea it added so much depth and contrast.

  11. My favorite photos is number 5. It is very well framed and the decaying building is intriguing. All of your photos have a sharp focus and the brightness and contrast settings are pretty much perfect in all of them. They are also very well lit. I like how your photos are organized to transition from indoor to outdoors in the city to outdoors in the woods.

  12. My favorite is number 5 because the composition seems well thought out and the subject matter speaks for itself. As a viewer, I wonder where this building is and what it was used for. On a higher level, this could speak to socioeconomic status in America.

  13. Your photos start off great, but as you start going into scenery it kind of loses its luster. I'm just as guilty of taking pics of scenes -- I can't help it. But the best photos were the ones in the beginning, specifically #2. I know it's a record player but I really like the framing. Your self portraits are also well done.
