  1. I really like your 7th photo because of how you can find both texture and pattern in the image. It is just an attention grabbing abstract photo.

  2. Hi Dan, for the construction of your work I really like the concept and organization you choose to present all your pictures. There is a clear sense of a story being told here. As for the communication, I can tell the story is waking up, going out on an adventure in the water of some sort, then coming back home. And for the conception, all of your pictures capture some mystery and the motivation of being outdoors and by the water was an interesting way to take this assignment. All in all you did a really great job and my favorite picture is #3 because I have no clue what it is and I really like the high contrast the object and light gives off in the picture.

  3. I enjoy the Morning to Night theme you have going on here. When I did Berk's VS Darkroom/Portfolio course last semester, I always tried to have my Crits tell stories within themes, in one way or another. You're the first person in this group I've seen do that (heck, even I didn't do that for this class), and it's honestly kind of refreshing to see.

I did get the Mystery vibe from most of your images, which is good. I would have to say that #8 is my favorite, theme wise. I legitimately have no idea what it is.

  4. Dan, I really enjoyed the dreamy, surreal quality of the shots in your photoset. My favorite out of all of them was #10. I was drawn to the simplicity of the shot and the framing of the lights really drew me. I also enjoyed the mysteriousness of the shot. Personally, I love when a photographer can turn something as simple as rows of lights and create a fantasy world out of it.

  5. Dan, I love your use of high contrast and close up approach. You communicate the topic of mystery very well, considering all of which make me question what they are. You have a wonderful eye for texture and creatively framed photos. My favorite is #10. It reminds me of something futuristic or alien, even though I'm sure it must be something relatable and every day now.

  6. wow it was so hard to choose my favorite between #4 and #6, but I think I have to choose #4. I'm not exactly sure what it is, but to me it looks like a wall with a shadow of a fire exit stairs on it. Seeing this image reminds me of tv shows and movies that show a lot of fire exit stairs scenes.
I also really like how the shadow is so dark. There are some images where shadows are really light and it just looks bad. This is the complete opposite. Great job!!

  7. My favorite photo is number 10. I can't tell what it is, so it fits the mystery criteria and I also really like the stark contrast between the blacks and whites. For the construction of your photos, I like how most of your subjects fill the entire frame so there is no negative space. For the communication of your photos, all of the images read well. All of the subjects are in sharp focus and the photos have high contrast. For the conception of your photos, most of the pictures are well done macro shots which I'm guessing might be your style of photography.

  8. That battleship is sick! I wonder is it inside of a bottle? That's my favorite. I also like that I can't tell what a lot of these are.

  9. My favorite image is 2. The battleship in itself tells a story, but the background adds so much complexity to it. I think black and white is ideal for this image

  10. Loved the third image. Looked like a great use of light and textures. Can't tell what it is, but I guess that's the point. Very interesting to look at.

  11. All your photos are really good. For me, 3 and 4 are the bests. It's a coin flip between which is better. Your photos all seem to flow and are bookended by cool self portraits. Your framing and composition were spot on.
