  1. I like the 2nd photo in the set because of its perspective. Also, I think it's good that you kept the depth of field deep so that everything is in focus. I think the image is impactful because you placed the object diagonally.

  2. Hi Mike, for the construction of your pictures, I all the photos have a subject, but are not all completely centered, but I think that is actually a good thing and makes your eyes wander to look at the whole picture. As for the communication of the pictures, they speak kind of creepy to me because most I have no idea what they are and they are all dark. For the conception of the pictures the motivation was definitely to make the viewer wonder what exactly the picture is of, which is what you did! All in all I really like your pictures and my favorite picture is #12 because it almost feels like you are looking into something that actually has depth to it.

  3. Mike -
Great photos, each one is of something completely different and had me starring for a while, pondering what they were. There is something I find very visually compelling about photo #7, perhaps because it looks like an eye starring back at me, My favorite of this group is #11, I have no idea what it is. If I had to guess, its the inside of one of those swirl light bulbs and if so, great job on getting a unique perspective on it!

  4. I'm gonna reverse order this comment by saying my favorite image first: I love 4. I still figured out what it was pretty quickly, but man oh man that's an ingenious way to photograph it. I give you mad props for it.

There are a few very obvious images in here, but for the most part I think you did a good job with mystery. You were two images over what we were supposed to have for the crit when I know there are two images you could cut and have an even more solid body of work, but that's really my main criticism.

I enjoy (and I'm not sure if this is intentional or not) how you have at least three self portraits in this set. I legitimately still don't know what 12 is, but I love how I can see you in a small part of it. Not so obvious reflection shots are something I love (and something i did in my own work for this week), and the more I think about it, I might actually like 12 more than 4. Great job.

  5. I really like how majority of your photos are very close up to the objects. This leave me feeling confused and almost like im trying to back up and see the whole image. I really like photo 14. I know what the photo is of but the darkness in your face creates this whole mysterious figure and really captures the idea of the topic well. Great job on all your photos.

  6. I really liked #12. It was a good subject to choose for a black and white pierce because it helps better illustrate the textures and lines of the photo. All of your photos seem well framed and thoughtful as expressions of texture and light. And almost all of the convey mystery considering I'm still trying to figure out what most of them are! Your idea of doing close ups helped with that. Beautiful work!

  7. #1 has to be my absolute favorite picture! I love pictures of the sky and clouds and this one looks so great. Also, some of your photos were blurred just a little too much. I couldn't tell what anything was. I know that this assignment was mystery, but it would've been nice to actually see some of the subjects.
I really like all the close ups too. Especially the one with the pole and all the staples to it. It's a very Philly picture I feel like. I see those poles everywhere I go.
    Great job!

  8. I love your pictures. They're quite fascinating. I personally think there's a little bit of mystery behind all of your photos. For most of your photos it seems as if you get up close to them and which captures the texture great. My favorite is 2 because I really enjoy the angle and the texture of the pole and the staples on it and also 14 because I think the lighting is really nice.

  9. My favorite photo is number 2. It plays with perspective and makes the staples appear much bigger than they are.You did a really good job with the mystery theme. The framing of the subjects/focal points vary which makes the collection as a whole very interesting. Your photos have good depth of field and contrast. For the conception of your photos, it's clear that you were trying to create mostly abstract images which you succeeded in.

  10. Mike,
I think you nailed the element of mystery. Your photos are up close and personal, which have helped mask their true identity. I love how used objects that shine adding an additional element that really helped draw me in. I think your images have a story to tell and I am excited to see your next posts. My favorite is 12

  11. Love the angle for photo number two. You took a subject that might seem uninteresting and made it interesting with your perspective. Great composition overall with your photos.

  12. 14 is my favorite. I love how your use of shadow adds personality to the image. Usually self portraits have the face as the subject, and I think you made yours stand out by having the light centered elsewhere.

  13. I like number one the best simply because of the parameters of this assignment. Its mysterious and framed perfectly. Some of your photos are too blurry and others are just lights in the dark, it seems. Overall you did a great job but I did notice some where similar to others.
